# I Kept Generating Images After I Already Had What I Needed

I had far more images than the project needed.

Most weren't bad. That made deleting them harder.

There were several versions of the same desk, product shots with slightly different lighting, and a few backgrounds I'd saved for “later.”

I only needed three: a main image, a close-up, and one everyday scene.

I already had enough. I just hadn't decided what was worth keeping.

**Too Many Images Were Doing the Same Job**

For a while, I judged every image on its own.

If the lighting looked good, I kept it. If I liked the angle, I kept it. If another version was slightly different, that often stayed too.

Eventually I stopped looking at them one by one and checked what the page still needed.

One image looked great but hid part of the product. Another was almost the same as the main image I'd already picked. A third was less striking, but it showed the detail I needed.

That one stayed.

I noticed the pile growing again while sorting a project in [ZMS AI Creative Suite](https://zms.com/). I already had a usable image, but I was still looking through small variations of the same idea.

At some point, another decent version wasn't helping.

I used to save anything decent because I might need it later.

Usually, I didn't.

On one small product page, I needed the images to cover three simple things: show the product clearly, show one useful detail, and put it into an everyday setting.

Once I had those covered, another nice version of the same shot didn't add much.

I've had the same problem with short video drafts. Sometimes a quieter clip fits the page better than the more dramatic one. I don't need to keep both just because both came out well.

The “Maybe Later” pile got smaller once I stopped inventing future uses for things I didn't need now.

**Real Products Get One Extra Check**

When the project involves a real product, I also compare generated visuals with the actual product material before publishing.

Packaging, labels, shape, and the way a product appears to work can all matter. If a generated version changes one of those details, I don't keep it simply because it looks cleaner.

A nicer-looking version isn't useful if it shows the wrong thing.

**I Still Make Too Many Versions**

I haven't become especially disciplined about generation.

Sometimes I keep two similar images open because I can't decide. Sometimes I delete one and wish I'd kept it five minutes later.

That's fine.

I just don't keep ten versions around because each has one small thing I like.

If the project already has what it needs, another variation needs a good reason to stay.

These days, the “Maybe Later” pile doesn't get nearly as much use.
