Meet Hoot: a quieter, warmer promptzone

Last week we shipped a quiet refresh of promptzone — a warmer palette, cleaner typography, and a mascot named Hoot. This post is a short walk-through: what changed, why, and what stayed the same.

No hype. We didn't pivot. The product is the same: a community for people who write prompts, build with LLMs, and want honest reviews of the tools they ship with.

 Why a refresh

The old visuals leaned generic-AI — gradients, neon, the same "futuristic" template you see on a hundred landing pages. That's not the room we're trying to be. The audience here is shipping production work and reading dense pages on weekends. Generic AI aesthetics undersell that.

Three goals drove the redesign:

Lower the visual noise. A reader should land on a comparison post and feel like they're in a documentation site, not a product launch. Warm paper background, ink text, one accent colour.

Make the brand human. Promptzone is an opinionated community, not a faceless aggregator. A mascot signals tone faster than a wordmark ever will.

Stay readable on every surface. The same kit has to work as a 1200×630 OG card, a 400×400 X avatar, a Discord banner, and a 600×180 email signature. The palette and the wordmark scale; gradients don't.

 Meet Hoot

Hoot is an owl. Orange body, bone-coloured belly, navy beak. The shape language is rounded and friendly — closer to a children's book than a startup logo, on purpose. Owls read as wisdom + curiosity, which is the posture we want every post on the site to take.

We considered a robot, an octopus, a fox, and a small abstract glyph. The owl won because:

It's specific enough to remember after one look.

It has obvious expression (eyes, brow, beak) for future variants — concentrating, surprised, pointing at a chart.

Owls don't carry baggage in the AI space. No vendor owns the metaphor.

Hoot will show up on social posts, OG images for new articles, and occasionally inside the writing itself when a side comment is worth flagging.

 The system (in three lines)

Palette — Hero
#F26B3A
, ink
#1A1612
, paper
#F6F1E7
, beak navy
#2A3556
used sparingly.

Type — Geist for display and body, JetBrains Mono for kickers, code, and metadata.

Voice — Practical · honest · no-hype. If a sentence sounds like marketing, it gets cut.

The full kit covers OG images, X / LinkedIn / Instagram / Facebook / YouTube / Discord / GitHub / email — eight surfaces, one identity. Anyone publishing on behalf of promptzone can ship a correctly-branded asset in under a minute.

 What stayed the same

The URL structure. Existing posts and their slugs are untouched. No redirects, no broken links.

The author network. Every contributor and their post history is preserved.

The editorial bar. We're still publishing comparison posts with verified numbers, hands-on tutorials, and honest reviews — that doesn't change because the colours did.

 What's next

Pillar pages for Claude, prompt engineering, AI coding, local LLMs, and AI agents — already live, now sitting under the new visual system.

A weekly digest in the same voice: practical, honest, no-hype. Five things worth your attention, no breathless takes.

Hoot variants for category landing pages — a slightly different expression per pillar so the topic is legible at a glance.

If something looks off — a stale logo cached somewhere, a dark-mode contrast issue, a page where the old brand leaked through — reply on this post or open an issue. Small fixes are easy now; they compound otherwise.

Thanks for being here.

— Adif

Understanding how to prompt ChatGPT effectively can significantly enhance your interactions with this powerful AI tool. A ChatGPT prompt is essentially a directive or question you provide to the model, guiding it on what kind of response you expect. The way you craft these prompts plays a crucial role in shaping the responses and, ultimately, the overall user experience.

Prompts are not just inputs; they are the key to meaningful and contextually relevant outputs from ChatGPT. By using well-structured prompts, you can influence the AI's responses to be more accurate, engaging, and aligned with your desired outcomes.

To help you master the art of writing effective prompts, we will discuss five practical steps:

Narrowing Down the Topic

Using Action Words

Providing Context

Defining the Desired Output

Interacting with the AI

Each step is designed to fine-tune your approach and improve the quality of your interactions with ChatGPT. For those interested in diving deeper into prompt creation, consider exploring resources like PromptZone, which offers a vibrant community for sharing and discussing creative prompts across various genres and interests.

By following these steps and engaging with communities like PromptZone, you can learn how to create clear, specific, and engaging prompts that yield better results from ChatGPT interactions.

Step 1: Narrowing Down the Topic

Defining a specific and focused topic for your ChatGPT prompt is crucial. A well-defined topic ensures that the AI generates responses that are relevant and actionable. When you narrow down the topic, you eliminate ambiguity, making it easier for ChatGPT to understand and deliver accurate outputs.

 Research Techniques:

Use tools like Google Trends or SEMrush to identify popular keywords related to your topic.

Explore databases and repositories such as arXiv or GitHub for the latest research papers and projects on AI.

Engage with platforms like Reddit or Stack Overflow to gather insights and practical advice from AI practitioners.

 Prompt Engineering Principles:

Applying prompt engineering principles can significantly enhance the effectiveness of your prompts. Consider these strategies:

Formulate prompts that are clear and concise, avoiding vague language.

Ensure that your prompt aligns closely with the desired output.

Incorporate relevant details that guide ChatGPT towards producing the intended response.

For example, instead of asking, "Tell me about machine learning," a more focused prompt would be, "Explain how supervised learning algorithms like decision trees work."

By narrowing down the topic and leveraging effective research techniques, you set the stage for creating highly effective prompts that drive meaningful interactions with ChatGPT.

 Step 2: Using Action Words

Using action words can significantly impact the effectiveness of your prompts. By using dynamic and actionable language, you can get specific actions from ChatGPT that match what you need. This not only makes your intent clearer but also helps the AI generate better responses.

 Impact of Action Words

Action words make your prompts more interesting and engaging. Instead of saying "Describe the benefits of exercise," you could ask ChatGPT to "List three reasons why regular exercise boosts mental health." The second prompt is more likely to get a detailed and focused response.

Examples of action words in prompts:

 Analyze

 Compare

 Explain

 Summarize

 Crafting Compelling Prompts

To create effective action-oriented prompts, think about the situation and what you want to achieve. Here are some tips:

Be Direct: Use clear and simple verbs to say exactly what you want.

Example: "Identify key trends in digital marketing for 2023."

Specify the Task: Break down complex questions into smaller tasks.

Example: "First, outline the main features of the new iPhone. Then, compare it with its predecessor."

Incorporate Constraints: Adding limitations can help guide the AI towards more accurate outputs.

Example: "Write a 100-word summary on climate change impacts."

Using these techniques will improve UX design with prompts by creating user-friendly interactions that feel natural and intuitive.

 Step 3: Providing Context

Providing context is crucial for enhancing the quality and relevance of ChatGPT's responses. Context helps the AI understand not just what you're asking, but why you're asking it, leading to more accurate and meaningful replies.

To utilize contextual information effectively in constructing prompts, consider these strategies:

 1. Background Information

Include relevant details that set the stage for your query. For instance, if you're asking for marketing advice, mention your industry and target audience.

 2. Specific Scenarios

Frame your prompt within a specific situation. A UX case study could illustrate how providing detailed background information led to more tailored design recommendations from ChatGPT.

 3. User Intent

Clearly specify the purpose of your prompt. Are you seeking creative ideas, factual information, or troubleshooting advice?

Examples of context-rich prompts:

"I run a small e-commerce store specializing in handmade crafts. What are some effective social media strategies?"

"In a UX project for a financial app targeting millennials, what onboarding features would enhance user engagement?"

Finding inspiration and learning from existing tutorials on prompt engineering can be highly beneficial. Many online resources offer step-by-step guides and examples. Websites like GitHub often host repositories with practical examples, while forums such as Reddit and specialized AI communities provide insights and peer support.

By embedding context into your prompts, you ensure that ChatGPT understands the full picture, which significantly improves the relevance and utility of its responses.

Step 4: Defining the Desired Output

Clearly defining the desired output or behavior is crucial for steering ChatGPT towards generating useful responses. When crafting prompts, specificity is key. Instead of vague instructions, provide detailed and explicit guidelines on what you want to achieve. For instance:

Vague Prompt: "Tell me about climate change."

Specific Prompt: "Summarize the main impacts of climate change on coastal cities in three bullet points."

This clarity helps ChatGPT understand your expectations and deliver more accurate results.

Step 4: Interacting with the AI

Interacting with AI is not a one-and-done process. It's essential to take an iterative approach to refine the outputs of ChatGPT through multiple exchanges. This method allows you to tweak and adjust your prompts based on the responses you receive, ultimately achieving more accurate and tailored results.

Adapting Prompts for Different Use Cases

 Generating Microcopy Requests

When creating concise, on-brand microcopy, specificity is crucial. For example, instead of a broad prompt like "Generate a tagline," try "Generate a catchy, three-word tagline for an eco-friendly brand." This directs ChatGPT towards a more focused output.

 Localizing Messages with AI

Facilitating multilingual interactions can be streamlined by using AI translation capabilities. Suppose you need to convert marketing messages into Spanish. A prompt such as "Translate this English promotional message into Spanish while maintaining a friendly tone" will help ensure the translated text aligns with your brand's voice.

By continuously interacting with ChatGPT and refining your prompts, you can significantly enhance the quality and relevance of the AI’s responses. This iterative practice not only improves immediate outputs but also equips you with valuable insights for future interactions.

Step 5: Grasp the LLM's scene.

These AI tools go beyond just generating text - they completely transform how you create content. Knowing how to use prompts effectively can take your skills to the next level, allowing you to create top-notch, captivating, and relevant content that meets user expectations.

A well-crafted prompt can be the deciding factor between a generic response and a personalized, actionable output. That's why it's important for anyone working with conversational AI models to understand and apply prompt engineering principles.

A good cover letter prompt does two things: it feeds the AI the specific facts it needs about you and the job, and it stops the AI from inventing the ones it doesn't have. This page collects 15 prompts organized by job situation — standard applications, career changes, no-experience applications, employment gaps, promotions, and more — for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any capable AI assistant.

Prompts marked Tested were run with Claude (Opus 4.8) in July 2026 against the sample scenario described in the test record below, and the sample output shown is unedited. The rest are templates built on the same structure — fill in every bracket before running them.

 Pick your situation

Switching careers or industries

Career change

First job, internship, or no direct experience

No experience

Employment gap or post-layoff

Employment gap

Going for a promotion at your current company

Internal promotion

Someone referred you

Referral

No job listing — cold outreach

Cold outreach

Senior or executive role

Executive

You already have a draft

Improve a draft

Before you run any of these

Every prompt here needs the same three inputs — have them ready to paste:

The job listing (or a description of the role for cold outreach)

3–5 resume bullet points relevant to this job — real ones, with real numbers

One specific fact about the company you genuinely care about

Privacy note: you're pasting career details into an AI service. Leave out your address, phone number, salary history, and anything covered by a confidentiality agreement. Add contact details to the letter after you export it.

The one failure mode to watch for: the most common problem isn't bad writing — it's the AI inventing specifics (metrics, project names, company facts) when the input is vague. Every bracket you leave unfilled is an invitation to fabricate. Fill them all, and read the output for claims you never made.

 Standard applications

1. Tailored to a specific position

Create a cover letter in a persuasive style for a [position title] at [company name], emphasizing my proven experience in [specific skill or qualification]. Use only the experience I provide below — do not invent achievements, metrics, or company details. Detail how this experience will directly benefit the company, focusing on the challenges or goals mentioned in their job listing. My experience: [paste 3–5 resume bullets]. The job listing: [paste listing].

The anti-fabrication line ("use only the experience I provide") is not decoration — inventing plausible specifics is the failure mode to guard against with every model. The test record shows the constraint holding in a real run.

2. Passion for the company's products

Craft a cover letter in a friendly and enthusiastic tone for the [position title] at [company name], expressing genuine admiration for [specific product or feature you actually use]. Illustrate instances from my experience below where my skills added value in similar contexts, and how I'd contribute to [company name]'s continued work on it. My experience: [paste bullets]. Do not invent product details beyond what I've described.

3. Achievement-led

Develop a cover letter in a professional tone for a [position title] at [company name], highlighting my key accomplishments: [paste 2–3 accomplishments with measurable results]. Explain how these results align with the strategic objectives in the job listing: [paste listing]. Keep it under 300 words and do not add achievements I haven't listed.

4. Skill-proficiency focus

Produce a cover letter that articulates my proficiency in [specific skill] clearly and positively. Use these examples of projects where this skill led to real outcomes: [paste examples]. Connect this expertise to the specific needs of the [position title] role at [company name] as described here: [paste listing].

5. Creative-industry tone

Suggest an appropriate tone and style for crafting a cover letter for a creative role in [specific industry], then write the letter in that style. Balance personality with professionalism, and build it only on this background: [paste experience]. The company's work I want to reference: [name a real project of theirs].

 Career change

6. Reframing transferable skills — Tested

Write a cover letter for a [target position] at [company name]. I am changing careers from [current field] after [X years]. Do not apologize for the career change or call it a risk — frame it as a deliberate decision. Map each of these experiences to what the role actually requires: [paste 3–5 bullets from your current career]. The job listing: [paste listing]. Use only the experience I've given you; do not invent familiarity with [target field] tools I haven't mentioned.

Tested output below in the test record. Note how the mapping instruction forces the letter to translate, not just list, prior experience.

7. Addressing the switch head-on

Write the opening two paragraphs of a cover letter for [target position] at [company name] that address my career change from [field A] to [field B] directly and confidently in the first sentence, then immediately pivot to the strongest evidence I can do this job: [paste your single best transferable achievement]. No clichés about "passion for new challenges."

 No experience

8. First application / internship

Write a cover letter for [position/internship] at [company name] for a candidate with no professional experience in the field. Build it on these instead: [paste coursework, projects, volunteer work, or personal projects — with concrete details]. Do not pad, do not apologize for inexperience, and do not invent workplace experience. Show how each item demonstrates a skill the listing asks for: [paste listing].

9. Student projects as evidence

Turn these academic or personal projects into evidence I can do the job of [position title]: [describe 2–3 projects, what you built/did, and any measurable outcome]. Write a cover letter that treats them with the same seriousness as work experience, without pretending they were jobs.

 Employment gap

10. Post-layoff or gap, without over-explaining

Write a cover letter for [position title] at [company name]. I have a [length] employment gap due to [one-line reason — keep it brief]. Mention the gap in exactly one sentence, without apology or detail, then spend the rest of the letter on what I bring: [paste 3–5 bullets]. The listing: [paste listing].

 Internal promotion

11. Applying inside your company

Write a cover letter for an internal application to [target role] at [company]. I currently work there as [current role]. Reference my inside knowledge of [team/process/product] as an advantage, cite these contributions: [paste 2–3 internal achievements], and address why I'm ready for the step up. Keep the tone confident but not presumptuous — I still have to earn this.

 Referral

12. Opening with a referral

Write a cover letter for [position title] at [company name] that opens with my referral: [referrer's name and role, and one line on how they know my work]. Use the referral once, in the first paragraph only, then stand on my own evidence: [paste bullets]. Do not make the letter read like the referral is my only qualification.

 Cold outreach

13. No listing exists

Write a letter of interest (not a response to a job listing) to [company name] about [type of role]. Open with the specific reason this company: [paste one genuine, specific observation about their work]. Propose the problem I could help solve based on: [paste your relevant experience]. Keep it under 250 words — shorter than a standard cover letter — and end with a low-pressure ask for a conversation, not a job.

 Executive

14. Senior and executive roles

Write an executive cover letter for [C-level/VP/Director role] at [company name]. Lead with strategic outcomes, not responsibilities: [paste 2–3 outcomes with scale — team size, budget, growth numbers]. Address the company's current strategic position: [paste one fact from their recent announcements or filings]. Formal tone, under 350 words, zero filler phrases like "proven track record."

 Improve a draft

15. Tighten what you already wrote

Here is my cover letter draft: [paste draft]. Cut it to under 300 words. Remove every sentence that could appear in anyone's cover letter, keep every sentence that could only be mine, fix the flow, and flag (don't fix) any claim that sounds exaggerated so I can verify it.

 Test record

Model: Claude (Opus 4.8) · Date: July 2026 · Runs: single run of prompt #6, default settings · Scenario (fictional, for testing): "Maya R.", six years as a retail operations manager (12-store region, led a scheduling overhaul that cut overtime 18%, trained 40+ staff), applying to a Customer Success Manager role at a B2B SaaS company whose listing emphasizes onboarding, retention, and cross-functional work.

Prompt #6 (career change), unedited output:

Dear Hiring Team,

After six years running retail operations across a 12-store region, I'm applying my operating skills to a new arena: customer success at [company]. This is a deliberate move — the work I do best is the work this role requires.

Your listing emphasizes onboarding. For six years, onboarding was my job in another vocabulary: I trained and ramped more than 40 store staff, and built the checklists and follow-up cadences that kept them from washing out in their first ninety days. It emphasizes retention; my scheduling overhaul cut overtime 18% not by cutting hours but by matching staffing to demand — the same diagnostic work as spotting an account at risk before it churns. And it asks for cross-functional coordination, which is the daily reality of sitting between district leadership, store teams, and head office.

What I don't yet know — your product, your CS tooling — I'll learn quickly, because learning operational systems fast has been a condition of every role I've held.

I'd welcome a conversation about how an operator's approach to customer success could work for your team.

Maya R.

What to notice: the mapping instruction did its job (each listing requirement gets a translated retail equivalent), the no-invention rule held (the letter admits she doesn't know their tooling instead of faking it), and the fictional 18% figure appears only because it was in the input. The anti-fabrication lines exist because inventing plausible specifics is a well-documented failure mode of every current model when inputs are vague — keep those lines in, and check the output for claims you never made.

 ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini

If you searched for ChatGPT cover letter prompts specifically: every prompt on this page works in ChatGPT unchanged — the bracket-and-constraint structure is model-agnostic and matters more than the model. Only the Claude behavior below comes from our own testing — the ChatGPT and Gemini notes are commonly reported tendencies, not our test results:

ChatGPT (reported): tends toward longer, more effusive letters — add "under 300 words, restrained tone" if that's not what you want.

Claude (tested here): followed the anti-fabrication constraints literally in our run — it flagged what the candidate doesn't know rather than papering over it. If the output feels too modest, add "confident tone."

Gemini (reported): integrates pasted job listings well but is often described as prone to generic closing paragraphs — consider rewriting the last paragraph yourself.

Whichever model you use: the letter is yours, not the AI's. Verify every factual claim before you send it.

 Common mistakes

Sending the first output. Run the prompt, then use prompt #15 on the result.

Not addressing a person. Find the hiring manager's name if it's findable; it signals research and genuine interest.

Skipping proofreading. AI output contains subtle errors and occasionally odd phrasing — read it aloud once before sending.

Leaving brackets unfilled. An unfilled
[specific skill]
either survives into the letter or gets filled with something invented. Both are worse than a typo.

 FAQ

Do employers care if a cover letter was written with AI?
Employers care whether the letter is specific, accurate, and true. A generic AI letter fails on specificity, and that is what gets noticed — not the tool. The prompts here force specificity by requiring your real experience as input.

Which AI is best for cover letters?
Any current model (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) produces a competent letter from a good prompt. The input you provide matters far more than the model. See the model notes above.

How long should an AI-written cover letter be?
Under 300 words for standard applications, under 250 for cold outreach. Every prompt here that risks running long includes a length cap — keep it.

Understanding ChatGPT's Prompt Limits in 2024

Have you ever wondered just how intelligent AI chatbots have gotten? As we enter 2024, ChatGPT and other conversational AI are becoming incredibly advanced, generating human-like text on almost any topic. But even the most sophisticated models have their limits. In this article, we'll explore just how many prompts per hour today's ChatGPT can handle before it starts to falter. Spoiler alert - the number may surprise you! Strap in as we push this AI to its brink and learn where its boundaries currently lie through hands-on testing and analysis. You'll come away with a deeper understanding of how far conversational AI has come in recent years, yet also where it still falls short compared to human capabilities. The results reveal how quickly the technology is evolving while highlighting key areas for improvement. Let's dive in and probe the prompt proficiency of one of today's most capable chatbots!

How to Write Effective Prompts for ChatGPT

 Processing Power

In 2024, ChatGPT can handle around 200-300 prompts per hour due to significant advancements in natural language processing. Compared to 2020, this is a massive increase from only being able to respond to 10 prompts per hour. The latest AI models have trillion parameters and require specialized hardware to run inference, costing millions of dollars.

 Response Time

The response time for ChatGPT has decreased to just a few seconds in 2024 compared to 30-60 seconds in 2020. Advancements in computing infrastructure, optimized algorithms, and simplified model architectures have all contributed to faster response times. For most casual conversations, ChatGPT's response feels instantaneous.

 Request Complexity

ChatGPT can now handle more complex, open-ended prompts and multi-turn conversations in 2024. It has a deeper understanding of context, knowledge about the world, and emotional intelligence which allows it to converse naturally on various topics. While not perfect, ChatGPT avoids repetitive responses and can link concepts across exchanges.

 Limitations

Despite significant progress, ChatGPT still struggles with some types of requests. It has difficulty handling sensitive topics, following complex instructions, or summarizing lengthy passages of information. ChatGPT is ultimately an AI, and while its abilities are impressive, human judgment and life experiences cannot yet be replicated. With continued progress in AI, ChatGPT's limits will expand but human oversight will remain necessary.

ChatGPT Prompt Limit FAQs: How Many Prompts Per Hour Can ChatGPT Handle?

To get the most out of ChatGPT, you'll want to provide prompts that are clear, concise, and open-ended. Keep prompts under 50 words

ChatGPT works best when prompts are limited to 1-2 sentences with a maximum of 50 words. Longer, more complex prompts can confuse the AI and result in irrelevant responses.

 Ask open-ended questions

Open-ended prompts that start with what, why, how, or describe encourage ChatGPT to provide more thoughtful answers. Closed-ended questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no should be avoided. For example, ask "How does machine learning work?" rather than "Does machine learning use algorithms?"

 Be specific

The more specific your prompt, the more tailored ChatGPT's response can be. Mention the topic, subject area, or question you want to discuss. For example, "How does blockchain enable cryptocurrencies?" is better than the vague "Explain blockchain."

 Use natural language

ChatGPT was trained on casual, conversational language, so prompts should sound natural. Avoid overly formal or stilted language. Simply ask your question as if talking to another person.

 Check responses for accuracy

While ChatGPT can provide very convincing responses, it may include information that is incorrect or not entirely factual. Double-check any facts or statistics mentioned in the AI's responses to ensure the information is accurate before relying on it.

With practice, you'll be writing prompts that inspire insightful, helpful responses from ChatGPT. And remember, the more people use and train ChatGPT, the smarter it will become at understanding natural language and providing accurate information.

 Structuring Your ChatGPT Prompt

You're scrolling through your social feeds and stumble across an article about ChatGPT. Intrigued, you click and start reading all about this new AI chatbot that's taking the world by storm.

But when you try it yourself, you're disappointed in the results. Don't worry! With a few simple tips, you'll be crafting prompts that get amazing responses from ChatGPT in no time. In this article, we'll walk through step-by-step how to structure your prompts to get the absolute best output from this groundbreaking AI.

You'll learn techniques like providing context, asking clear questions, and guiding the tone you want. We'll even include templates and examples so you can instantly apply what you learn. So get ready to become a ChatGPT prompt pro!

 Using Clear, Direct Language

 Provide Context

To get great results from ChatGPT, you need to give it context about what you want. Start your prompt with 2-3 sentences describing the overall topic or goal. For example:

"I'm trying to book a flight from San Francisco to New York. Here is the information I have so far:"

 Use Natural Language

ChatGPT understands natural, conversational language best. Speak to it like you would a human assistant. For example:

"Hi there! I need help planning a trip to Hawaii. My budget is $2,000 and I want to visit Maui and Kauai. What would you recommend for 7-10 days?"

Rather than something like:

"Destination: Hawaii. Budget: $2,000. Duration: 7-10 days."

 Provide Specific Details

The more details you provide upfront, the better and more customized ChatGPT's responses will be. Mention things like:

Exact dates of travel

Names of locations you want to visit

Types of activities or experiences you're interested in

Any preferences, constraints, or requirements

For example:

"My wife and I want to travel to London and Paris from August 15-25. We love museums, historical sites, and cafes. We have $5,000 to spend and want a mix of nice hotels as well as more budget-friendly options."

 Ask Open-Ended Questions

Ask ChatGPT open-ended questions to get conversational responses. For example:

"What do you recommend we do in London and Paris given our interests?"

Rather than closed questions like:

"Is the British Museum open on Tuesdays?"

With the right prompt structure and details, you'll be chatting with ChatGPT in no time and getting amazing, personalized results! Let me know if you have any other questions.

 Providing Context and Examples

To get the best results from ChatGPT, you need to be very explicit in your prompts. Be direct and specific. Don't hint at what you want or speak in general terms - tell ChatGPT exactly what kind of response you're looking for.

For example, don't say:

Tell me about artificial intelligence.

That's too broad. Instead, specify:

Explain how artificial neural networks work.

ChatGPT will then provide a focused explanation of neural networks.

Avoid ambiguity. Don't leave room for interpretation in your prompts. If there's more than one way ChatGPT could respond, it may not give you the answer you want. For example:

What can technology do?

That could lead to a response about anything from artificial intelligence to space travel. A better prompt would be:

What types of tasks can artificial intelligence perform?

ChatGPT will then list specific AI capabilities like image recognition, natural language processing, and more.

Be concise but provide necessary context. Keep your prompts short and to the point, but include details that will help ChatGPT determine the appropriate response. For example:

Write a short blog post about self-driving cars.

ChatGPT may generate a generic post, not knowing your particular angle or goals. A prompt with more context could be:

Write a 300-word blog post on how self-driving cars could reduce traffic fatalities for readers interested in emerging technologies.

With this additional context, ChatGPT can craft a tailored response that fits your needs.

Guiding the AI With Step-by-Step Instructions

To get the best results from ChatGPT, you need to provide enough context and examples in your prompt. Think of it like giving detailed instructions to a friend—the more specifics you can provide, the better they’ll understand what you’re asking for.

 Explain Your Goal

First, clearly state what you want ChatGPT to produce for you. Do you want a poem, a blog post, help with your homework? The more focused your goal is, the better. For example, say “Write a persuasive blog post on why we should protect endangered species” rather than just

“Write something about the environment.”

 Share Background Details

Next, fill in relevant details about the topic or subject you want to discuss. For a blog post, share information like the intended audience, tone, keywords, and key messages. To get help with your homework, specify the class, subject area, and any materials you’ve been given. The context you provide helps ChatGPT produce a result that really fits your needs.

 Provide Examples

Finally, give ChatGPT some examples of what you’re looking for. Share links to similar work, or provide short snippets of text. See a blog post you like? Share the opening paragraph. Stuck on a math problem? Show the kind of problems you're working on. Giving examples helps ChatGPT understand the style, format and subject matter that will make its response as helpful as possible.

With clear goals, background details, and examples, you’ll be setting ChatGPT up for success. Craft your prompt with care and reap the benefits of an AI assistant ready to provide an amazing, tailored response. ChatGPT can do a lot, but it still depends on you to give it the right instructions!

AI Headphones Enable Selective Listening in Crowds

Noise-canceling headphones have significantly improved in providing an auditory blank slate. However, allowing users to selectively hear specific sounds from their environment remains a challenge. The latest Apple AirPods Pro can adjust sound levels for users automatically, such as during conversations, but they offer limited control over which person to listen to or when this adjustment happens.

A team at the University of Washington has developed a groundbreaking AI system named "Target Speech Hearing" (TSH). This innovative technology enables headphone users to focus on a single speaker in a noisy environment by simply looking at them for a few seconds. Once enrolled, the system cancels all other ambient sounds and isolates the enrolled speaker's voice in real time, even if the listener moves around and no longer faces the speaker.

Presented at the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, the TSH system is a proof-of-concept device, and its code is available for further development. This system isn't yet commercially available but shows promising potential for future applications.

According to Shyam Gollakota, a senior author and professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at UW, "We develop AI to modify the auditory perception of anyone wearing headphones, based on their preferences. With our devices, you can now hear a single speaker clearly, even in a noisy environment with many other people talking."

 How It Works

To use TSH, the user wears off-the-shelf headphones equipped with microphones and taps a button while looking at the person speaking. The headphones' microphones capture the sound waves from the speaker’s voice, and the signal is sent to an on-board embedded computer. The machine learning software on this computer identifies the speaker’s vocal patterns and isolates their voice, which is then played back to the listener in real time. The system’s accuracy improves as the speaker continues talking, providing more training data.

 Key Features and Future Developments

Selective Listening: Isolate a single speaker’s voice in a noisy environment.

Real-Time Adaptation: Continues to track and isolate the speaker’s voice even as the user moves.

User Control: Simple activation by looking at the speaker for a few seconds.

The current system can enroll only one speaker at a time and works best when no other loud voices are coming from the same direction. If the sound quality is unsatisfactory, users can re-enroll the speaker for better clarity.

The team plans to expand this technology to earbuds and hearing aids, making selective listening more accessible in various forms.

 Research and Testing

The TSH system was tested on 21 subjects who reported significantly better clarity for the enrolled speaker’s voice compared to unfiltered audio. This work builds on the team's previous "semantic hearing" research, which allowed users to select specific sound classes to hear while canceling others.

 Conclusion

AI-powered selective listening represents a significant advancement in personal audio technology. The Target Speech Hearing system offers a glimpse into a future where users have greater control over their auditory environment, making it easier to focus on desired sounds amidst noise.

𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥:
HuggingChat's default LLM, Cohere's Command R+, can now utilize AI applications built by the community (ZeroGPU Spaces) for:

Image generation

Image editing

Web search

Document RAG

And more!

For the release, we've integrated six tools, with plans to expand to more models and tools in the coming weeks. Community members can also add their own tools (any ZeroGPU space is compatible).

For more info, check out the discussion link in the comments 🔥

 What's New

The announcement of the beta release of Tools on HuggingChat! Tools expand the capabilities of chat models, allowing them to determine when to use a tool, select the appropriate tool, and pass the necessary arguments (via function calling).

 Available Tools

Web Search: Query the web and retrieve relevant content.

URL Fetcher: Fetch text content from a specified URL.

Document Parser: Parse content from PDFs, text files, CSVs, JSONs, and more.

Image Generation: Create images from text prompts.

Image Editing: Modify images based on text instructions.

Calculator: Evaluate mathematical expressions.

 How The Tools Where Chosen

Must be a ZeroGPU Space with exposed API endpoints.

Fast response time (~25 seconds max).

Prefer simple, fun tools over complex workflows.

 Next Steps

Enable tool use with previously generated files.

Allow users to add their own ZeroGPU Spaces as tools.

Regularly add more official tools.

Support more models, potentially starting with Llama-3.

Implement multi-step tool use (Agents).

Add runtime tools via OpenAPI specification.
