The W3 form is officially known as “Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements”. It is primarily used in the United States by employers as a tax document. Its purpose is to provide a summary of total wages and tax-related information collected from Form W-2 statements for employees. The employers, after collecting all this information, send it to the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The purpose of a W-2 form is to show earnings and tax information of employees, a W3 form actually combines this information into one single report. This makes the task of the government easier as comparing information becomes easier.

The W3 form should be submitted by those employers who issue W-2 forms. This includes employers of all organizations, businesses, whether big or small, corporations, household employers, and even Non-Profit Organizations. Those who are self- employed and have not employed anyone need not file the W-3. They have to report their taxes through other forms.
