Before the Ash lets you rebuild the city of Pompeii using strategy, cards, and hexagonal tiles—all while the threat of Mount Vesuvius looms overhead. You start with humble buildings, daily cards, and a ticking clock to grow your settlement against the rising danger.
Each day brings new cards that let you place buildings on hex tiles. These buildings produce resources—wood, stone, gold, population—that fuel your expansion. Choose which buildings to build wisely, balance your hand of cards, and invest in structures that help you generate more resources or survive disasters.
Volcanic eruptions are central to the challenge. Fires will flare up across the map; you must click to extinguish them or allow them to spread to clear land. Meanwhile, your resource generation slows if too many tiles are ruined. Faith becomes your secret weapon: spending it can delay the final eruption, giving you more time to grow.
The historical setting adds weight to every decision. As you expand, you’ll feel the tension of building something beautiful even as disaster threatens. The pixel art evokes a lively, ancient world, and each explosion or fire reminds you how fragile your progress can be.
You’ll play with mouse-only controls, placing and upgrading buildings, extinguishing fires, and managing cards. The game is free to play online and is suited for both quick sessions where you rush to build as much as possible, and longer games where strategy wins over haste.
Grow your city, survive the ashes, and build a legacy in Pompeii.
