Every time I see news about a natural disaster or a troubling social issue, my first reaction is sadness, followed by a deep sense of helplessness. It feels like besides sharing a post, lighting a virtual candle, or maybe donating a few dollars, there isn't much I can do. Donating is great, of course, but I always felt like I was missing a real sense of participation.
