Why I Built an AI Tool for PTE Core
PTE Core is becoming an important English test option for Canadian permanent residency (PR) applicants.
But many candidates told me they had three big problems:
- Hard to find realistic PTE Core-style questions
- No instant, detailed feedback on their speaking and writing
- Confusion about CLB levels and CRS scores
So I decided to build a small, focused web app to solve these problems.
What PTE Core Practice Does
My project is called PTE Core Practice.
It is an AI-powered practice platform designed specifically for PTE Core and Canadian PR.
Main features:
- Real exam-style practice questions for speaking, writing, reading and listening
- Instant AI scoring with detailed feedback (strengths, mistakes, and suggestions)
- CLB calculator: see what Canadian Language Benchmark level your scores match
- CRS calculator: estimate how your language scores affect your Express Entry profile
- Supports both English and Chinese interface
The goal is simple: help more people prepare efficiently for PTE Core and understand their immigration prospects more clearly.
How I Use AI in This Project
On the technical side, I use LLMs to:
- Generate and refine PTE Core-style prompts
- Evaluate speaking and writing answers with rubrics similar to official criteria
- Provide actionable feedback, not just a score
- Help users understand why they lost points and how to improve
I also use analytics to see which question types users struggle with the most so I can keep improving the content.
