Before choosing an AI tool, start with the business outcome and the workflow it could improve. A useful assessment looks beyond enthusiasm for the technology: it asks whether the organisation has the data, people, infrastructure and governance to use it well.
A prompt to structure the discussion
Copy this prompt into your preferred assistant and replace the brackets with information you are comfortable sharing:
Act as a practical AI adoption adviser. Our organisation wants to improve [business outcome] in [workflow]. Ask me one question at a time about our strategy, data quality, team capability, infrastructure, expected return and governance. Do not assume missing facts. After the questions, summarise the main constraints, suggest one low-risk pilot and list the decisions a human owner must make before proceeding.
Use the answer as a starting point
Check the output with the people who own the workflow. Avoid entering confidential customer, financial or employee information into a tool unless your organisation has approved that use. Record the baseline, the owner and a way to measure the pilot before rollout.
MxD Digital’s CEO AI Readiness Test offers a short assessment across those six areas, with practical next steps.
